In accordance with SEA 442, on July 28, 2025, the Greater Jasper Consolidated School Board of Trustees approved the instructional plan and curricular resources related to the topic of Human Development & Sexuality, as outlined below.
Grade 5
Curriculum is focused on puberty and development, helping students to understand physical and emotional changes during this time.
Grade 6
Curriculum is focused on students' dreams and goals and the relationship to adolescent sexual behavior. The Making a Difference! Curriculum that is utilized is an evidence-based, abstinence approach to teen pregnancy and HIV/STD prevention. Students receive medically accurate, fact-based information about preventing pregnancy, STDs, and HIV infection; learn about consent and strategies for responding to peer and partner pressure; and practice refusal and negotiation skills.
Child & Adolescent Development Course
The curricular focus in this course is on abstinence, other protective measures, and fetal development through adolescence.
