In Indiana, students in grades 3 through 8 will take the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus (ISTEP+). ISTEP+ consists of two major components, the Multiple-Choice Assessment and the Applied Skills Assessment (open-ended). The Multiple-Choice and Applied Skills assessments are criterion-referenced and are designed to measure students’ mastery of the Indiana Academic Standards. Sample items are available at www.doe.in.gov/istep.
ISTEP+ will be administered in two parts: the Applied Skills Assessments and the Multiple-Choice Assessments. Please contact your child’s teacher for specific testing schedules and times.
What can parents do to support students during testing?
- Make sure your child has plenty of sleep the night before.
- Provide a nutritious breakfast.
- Encourage your child to do his or her very best, but don’t place too much emphasis on the test.
- Schedule appointments outside of the testing schedule.
